Maloles makes flats just the way I like them — colorful, round-toed, and unique!

Last night —

we had a despedida dinner (*sob*) for one of my bestest friends, Sheila, who along with hubby Mike will be based in Singapore starting next week.

(I’ll miss you Shei. So I guess Tips and I will just have to use up some miles in order to meet you for lunch from now on (; )

I also dropped by the mini-CFA reunion/welcome dinner for Lizza‘s friend Angela before heading to Sheila’s despedida. Carlo has some pictures here

Oh, if you happen to notice that Arn oddly wasn’t with me in any of the pics, that’s because he was at a dinner meeting with Gerry, Ilyn (hi Ilyn!), and Zach for another project to look forward to *wink*

Speaking of Arn and Gerry, their last team effort Lastikman was reviewed in the Philippine Star last week.

A few of our new year acquisitions:

Carnet de Voyage

Craig Thompson promises his fans that this is not his “next book”. It’s really a travel journal he kept while touring through Africa and Europe early this year. Exquisite sketches accompany his painstakingly-detailed notes and if you’re a huge Thompson fan like Arn and me, it’s worth forking the few dollars* over. You may browse through some excerpts here.

*Locally, you can ask our friendly neighborhood comic guy to get it for you.

Cosmos Boxed Set

Do you remember the old TV show Cosmos which aired on Channel 9 in the 80’s? (If not then oops, the age gap is showing). Loaned to us by Arn’s brother kuya Lenn, a professor in the US, this extraordinary show that was written and hosted by the late, great Carl Sagan is chock-full of information about everything over and around the sun. I’m only watching the ones that interest me but Arn is bent on viewing all 13 episodes one after the other.

Have you been waiting as long as I have? Just hang on for a few more months…

There are two featurettes here and here.

Aww, thanks for your loyalty, Monra, Junnie and Heidi. Yay!

Trust the Japanese to come up with the ultimate OC’s dreamhouse — a house of drawers. Imagine being able to keep clutter hidden from view, and at the same time have a different “look” for your interiors each day. Just push and pull and:

now you’ll see them,

later you won’t.

Galing no, “desk tugs of war” will no longer be figments of Terry Gilliam’s imagination.

I feel bad about losing my recent entries due to the switch, so I’ll be reposting some of them (the interesting ones at least), one a day. That way, even if I have nothing to write about, it won’t seem like I’m deserting this blog’s 3 most-loyal readers (yes it’s down to 3, I think: Shei, Tips, and Arn).

Besides gift tags and ponytail holders, what other things can you do with ribbons? Well, a group of (brilliant!) Japanese designers had other things in mind, take a look.

A lamp, dot hooks, bowls, candlesticks, and more — all entirely fashioned out of ribbon.

Looky! Pretty things to spoil your cat with (although our Abbsy seems quite content with what he has).

Kitty paraphernalia from George SF. Am loving the happy cat bowl-flock o’ birds food mat tandem.

By the way, yes they have stuff for doggies, too.

How to waste 4 hours of planet time.

This being my birthday month (*wink, nudge*), I had to take a trip to the LTO to renew my license this morning. Since it only took my brother less than an hour (yup, drug test and all) to renew last year, I had high hopes that if I leave at 9, I’ll be able to get my new card in an hour, run to the grocery, and then get home early enough to cook lunch for dear hubby. In fact I proudly told him not to come along so he can work while his wife “took care of everything”.
Sadly, my well-orchestrated plan was not to be. (First of all, I woke up at 9 so I was already running a bit late to start with.) I left at 9:30, got to LTO by 9:45, finished the drug and medical test by 10, filed the license renewal form by 10:30, then waited. And waited. And waited. By 11:30, they hadn’t even called me to the cashier yet so I called Arn and told him that the chances that I can get home before lunch is rather, well, bleak. I finally got called to Window 6 at 11:59, only to be told that my license will be ready after lunch. (And it was, I got it at 1pm, on the dot. My card was just unfortunate enough to be in the pile that had to be set aside due to lunch break.)
Lesson: wake up early. It turns out that Calvin was there by 8, no wonder he finished early.

Just for posterity, you may want to read the blog entry I wrote after renewing 3 years ago.
