Well there was Joli along Espana and Artek in Delta but they were quite far, and online shopping &#8212; let alone the internet &#8212; was unheard of at the time. So by default NBS was The Mothership and to be fair, selection wasn&#8217;t bad. It&#8217;s just that compared to today, we had a\u00a0very limited range\u00a0of art materials to choose from.<\/p>\n<p>And now\u00a0&#8212; okay I don&#8217;t know when exactly the local arts and crafts movement boomed but it sure happened when I wasn&#8217;t looking. Very pleased\u00a0though that I don&#8217;t have to turn to DickBlick or <a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/2D3pYvT\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Amazon&#8217;s Arts, Crafts &#038; Sewing section<\/a> for supplies anymore since I can now easily get them locally and from within the comforts of home, no less.<\/p>\n<p>If you check my <a href=\"http:\/\/instagram.com\/arncyn\" target=\"_blank\">Instagram feed<\/a>, you&#8217;ll see that I&#8217;ve been into honing my analog art skills\u00a0since late last year\u00a0and I&#8217;ve explored everything\u00a0from rubber stamp carving\u00a0and\u00a0shrink\u00a0plastic\u00a0crafting to watercolor painting and even lettering. Here are the stores I&#8217;ve been getting all my crafty goodies from.\u00a0There may be more out there but I find the following\u00a0shops&#8217; inventories sufficient for my needs.<\/p>\n<p>(Updated on Jan. 6, 2018)<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/artwhale.com.ph\/\" target=\"_blank\">ARTWHALE <\/a>&#8211; <\/strong>an online store that\u00a0carries beautiful not-so-commonly-available paints\u00a0like Korea-based\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/artwhale.ph\/shop\/nicker\/\" target=\"_blank\">Nicker fine art gouache<\/a>\u00a0(a.k.a. the brand that\u00a0Ghibli Animation Studio uses), Japan-based <a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/2m0Z1ki\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Turner Colour Works Acryl Gouache<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/2D0yUlD\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Peerless Watercolors<\/a> (a vintage American brand known for highly pigmented watercolors\u00a0in sheet form), and <a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/2CYMUw2\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Shin Han Art Korean Watercolours<\/a>. The proprietor Kuki is very friendly and knowledgeable about their products and customer service is <strong>top notch<\/strong>. (Please refer to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bauzon.ph\/cynthia\/shin-han-professional-korean-watercolours\/\" target=\"_blank\">this newer post<\/a>\u00a0for the full story. :D)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bauzon.ph\/cynthia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/art-whale-philippines.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1093\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bauzon.ph\/cynthia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/art-whale-philippines.jpg\" alt=\"art-whale-philippines\" width=\"700\" height=\"349\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bauzon.ph\/cynthia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/art-whale-philippines.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.bauzon.ph\/cynthia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/art-whale-philippines-300x150.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.bauzon.ph\/cynthia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/art-whale-philippines-450x224.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>They have pop-up stores every once in a while so I recommend following\u00a0their <a href=\"http:\/\/www.instagram.com\/artwhaleph\" target=\"_blank\">Instagram account<\/a> to see if they&#8217;ll be in a bazaar soon.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.craftcarrot.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">CRAFT CARROT<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; an online store\u00a0based\u00a0in\u00a0Loyola Heights, Quezon City. They\u00a0stock\u00a0artist paints &amp; paper, calligraphy tools and inks, sketch markers, and rubber stamp carving supplies. I got my two-tone carving blocks\u00a0&#8212;\u00a04&#8243;x 6&#8243; and 2&#8243;x 2&#8243; round and square\u00a0blocks &#8212; from them (see below). I also purchased a few of the inexpensive &#8220;Craft&#8221; brand ink pads. I don&#8217;t think\u00a0they&#8217;re archival though\u00a0so I just use them for testing my stamps.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/lh4.googleusercontent.com\/-_I9IWYXUJjs\/VMJ5I59afeI\/AAAAAAAAD8Q\/IFoqp8X7f0s\/s640\/craft-carrot.jpg\" alt=\"craft carrot ph\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not sure if they have a physical shop since their website says you&#8217;ll have to set up an appointment before visiting their office\u00a0but ordering online\u00a0is\u00a0quick and painless. I&#8217;ve already purchased from them twice and both times I received fast and friendly service &#8211; &#8220;friendly&#8221; meaning there is actual communication from\u00a0the shopkeepers, not just automated replies. \ud83d\ude42 Also, they use Xend.com for shipping so you&#8217;ll be sure to get your items within 24-48 hours upon receiving confirmation for your order.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.heykessy.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">HEY KESSY<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; another online store\u00a0with an\u00a0HQ in Loyola Heights which I believe is a physical shop. They sell washi tape, chalk markers, air dry clay and a\u00a0good variety\u00a0of fun\u00a0crafting supplies.\u00a0They&#8217;re the only place I&#8217;ve found that carries\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B00557220Y\/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=B00557220Y&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=cynthinsid-20&amp;linkId=A7QYEXTWAXLXSEFP\">Tsukineko VersaCraft Fabric Inkpads<\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: none !important; margin: 0px !important;\" src=\"http:\/\/ir-na.amazon-adsystem.com\/e\/ir?t=cynthinsid-20&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=B00557220Y\" alt=\"\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" border=\"0\" \/> (pigment-based, archival, and acid-free) and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B000BYU1M2\/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=B000BYU1M2&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=cynthinsid-20&amp;linkId=WSPAV6GBVKPK5SWU\">Speedball Speedy-Carve Carving Blocks<\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: none !important; margin: 0px !important;\" src=\"http:\/\/ir-na.amazon-adsystem.com\/e\/ir?t=cynthinsid-20&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=B000BYU1M2\" alt=\"\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" border=\"0\" \/>, currently\u00a0the biggest (and priciest) ones that are available locally. These blocks carve like butter &#8212; no, wait.\u00a0Like konnyaku jelly! Soft and jiggly!\u00a0&#8212;\u00a0so I use them for special, intricate designs.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/lh4.googleusercontent.com\/-1Q0m4XZ4nfM\/VMJ5Jn2rw9I\/AAAAAAAAD8c\/CP6owMElODg\/s640\/hey-kessy.jpg\" alt=\"hey kessy\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I can also say that they know how to make their customers feel special. Aside from the friendly correspondence, they sent me that\u00a0adorable postcard on the left. Look at how the\u00a0items were\u00a0packaged too. It\u00a0was\u00a0like opening a gift. (It&#8217;s all in the details. \ud83d\ude42 ) I&#8217;ll definitely buy from them again &#8212; but first, I need to use up my blocks. CreatebyTLF is another online store based Quezon City. There is no physical shop but they have a display at Mrs. Graham&#8217;s Store in Scout Rallos\u00a0which is restocked twice a month. Becoming a site member also entitles you to occasional\u00a0perks like free shipping\u00a0&#8212; just keep your eyes peeled for promos\u00a0(I was able to avail of that last December.) \u00a0I&#8217;m not sure if they really don&#8217;t update customers with tracking numbers\u00a0via e-mail but my purchases appear at my doorstep right on schedule which makes up for\u00a0the lack of communication.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/beehappyph.com\/shop\/\" target=\"_blank\">BEE HAPPY CRAFTS<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>&#8211; is a crafting and party supplies\u00a0store in Caloocan, open to customers on Saturdays but you can also order from them online. They stock a lot of scrapbook\u00a0and journal-keeping goods like stamps, stickers, scrapbook sheets, punches, cardboard\u00a0stock, ribbons, etc. They&#8217;re also the only place I&#8217;ve found that stocks unbranded shrink plastic locally.\u00a0I&#8217;ve ordered a few sheets of the Inkjet shrink plastic and have found that they hold ink well and shrink almost exactly like\u00a0the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B0042SYZDE\/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=B0042SYZDE&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=cynthinsid-20&amp;linkId=BXUF2EV4UITCED52\">Shrinky Dinks<\/a>-branded ones that I bought from Amazon\u00a0(please\u00a0see <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/instagram.com\/arncyn\/\" target=\"_blank\">my Instagram feed<\/a><\/strong> or <a title=\"shrinkydink projects\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bauzon.ph\/cynthia\/shrink-plastic-experiments\/\" target=\"_blank\">the previous post<\/a> for examples of what I&#8217;ve done with the material).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/lh5.googleusercontent.com\/-duRHri197dA\/VMJ5I3wvdAI\/AAAAAAAAD8I\/1_XIJmSag6Y\/s640\/bee-happy.jpg\" alt=\"bee happy\" width=\"640\" height=\"474\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Inkjet sheets are a little pricey at P90\/piece but I&#8217;m glad to have\u00a0an option to ordering them from overseas. I&#8217;ve also bought some cardboard stock from them for mounting. The site is easy to use and you\u00a0will\u00a0receive email confirmations for your order. You may also follow up with them through sms.<\/p>\n<p>&#8230; and finally\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.deovirarts.com\/\"><strong>DEOVIR<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I love that they have physical stores in\u00a0malls which means that I can get my materials on the same day I need them. The selection in their SM North Edsa outlet is impressive\u00a0and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.arnold-arre.com\" target=\"_blank\">Arnold<\/a> has been buying his Micron drawing pens, watercolor paper, and comic tools\u00a0from there for years. You can also buy from them online but I haven&#8217;t\u00a0done\u00a0so yet since SM is close by.\u00a0Also,\u00a0there are items in the physical stores that aren&#8217;t on the site so it&#8217;s more advisable\u00a0to swing by the actual shop and see the merchandise first hand.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;d love to know where you shop for <em>your<\/em> art materials.
